Overview of Giving

Investing In What Matters Most

Compass was founded with the goal of developing servant leaders. What is a servant leader? It is a philosophy of leadership where the servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. Unfortunately, this style of leadership and the culture of giving associated with it is not encouraged or practiced consistently in society. We live in a society of “Me” rather than “We.” Compass strives to stand out from the norm by instilling the values of servant-leadership and a culture of giving through our practices:

  • School Board Members dedicate and volunteer their time for the success of our school

  • Administrators model service by wiping tables and emptying garbage cans during student’s lunch period

  • Teachers clean their own classrooms and volunteer for various school activities and events

  • Parents volunteer in the classroom and support events

  • Students help clean the classroom and school through their class service assignments

Additionally, Compass high school students must earn 80 hours of community service which equates to two credits required for graduation and we participate in a minimum of two school-wide community service projects annually.

As you may or may not know, charter schools don’t receive the same facility funding that the traditional public schools receive. Therefore, if you own a home, your property taxes to support schools are going the the traditional school district rather than to Compass, the school that is educating your child(ren). We aren’t telling you this to complain, it is just a fact. However, it does mean that we need to think out of the box and find different ways to sustain our programs and facilities.

This is a perfect opportunity for parents, grandparents, maybe even aunts and uncles, to model servant leadership and the culture of giving for the young people they are responsible for raising. By donating a small amount per month, our goal is $25 per family, you will be helping sustain a highly effective program focused on developing our youth into contributing members of society. They say it takes a village to raise a child and this is what we are asking, please help us be a school community focused on “WE!”
