National History Day Program
Students 6th-9th grade complete a National History Day project in their Social Studies class. NHD in Idaho is an exciting way to engage students by pulling them out of the classroom and into the world of a professional historian. Outside of our classroom, NHD is also a competition on three levels: regional (local), state, and national. Over the last seven years, Compass students have earned over $25,000 in scholarships through their NHD projects.
NHD Nationals are at the College of Maryland and we are reaching out for community partnerships through donations and sponsors. Our goal is always to raise enough money to get students to Nationals so they can represent the state of Idaho. Any size donation helps, as there are fees both big and small. Any additional funds raised will go towards an account to support students going to nationals from now on.
Donate Here – Please select NHD (National History Day) in the dropdown menu when donating online.
Donating by Check – Please add “NHD Donation” to the memo and mail or deliver to 4667 West Aviator St. Meridian, ID 83642. Please email [email protected] to inform us you mailed in a donation.
A big big thank you!
This year, Compass had over 120 students compete at regionals and 34 are competing at state. On May 6th, we’ll know if any students make it to Nationals. Besides being a fun experience, there are many benefits to NHD. Here are some of our project’s objectives: To provide students with an innovative learning tool; To encourage the study of history using creative expression in a variety of ways; To develop research and reading skills and refine presentation skills; To develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills; To involve members of the community in students’ education.
