What if my child gets sick at school?

When a student feels sick at school they may ask their teacher if they can come to the office for:

    • Medication for headaches, minor pain and tummy aches – we follow your instructions given to us at registration.  If office staff don’t need to contact you first, a note will be sent home with the student stating the time and type of medication that was given to them.
  • Your child will need to go home if they…
    • Have a fever of 100° or more
    • Have vomited or had diarrhea
    • Exhibit symptoms of a contagious illness like chickenpox, lice, pink eye, etc.
    • Sustain an injury which requires parental attention and monitoring

Please note:  We do not have a school nurse.  Office staff are not medically trained and are not qualified to offer medical advice.  Your child or their teacher may call you from the classroom if the teacher thinks they are ill and medication won’t help.

What if my child will be absent or late?

Please report your child’s absence by 10am:

    • Go to the website at compasscharter.org and click the Attendance button or
    • Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent or late.  You can leave a message on the attendance line.
      • K-6th grade call 855-2802

What if we need a change in transportation?

Call the school at least  45 minutes before school gets out.  Changes in transportation cannot be taken after 2pm on Monday and 3pm Tuesday – Friday.

  • Students must have a parent note to ride a different bus or get off at a different bus stop.  There will not be enough time for staff to confirm verbal communication between parent and student.
  • Without a note or parent phone call your student will be sent home according to their usual routine.

What if I need to pick my child up for an appointment during school?

  • Call the school office in plenty of time for office staff to notify the teacher.  If you give staff enough time to get the message to your child’s teacher, your child can meet you in the office.  However, if a student is waiting more than 10 minutes they will be sent back to their classroom until you arrive.
