Saxon math assignment or other math HW designed to broaden and deepen the
student's understanding of mathematical concepts and procedures.
Reading: Read 100 minutes, record on
reading log and submit every Monday. Current Events: Using
the format assigned for that week, choose one article from a news source and
answer all questions. Be prepared for a short presentation on Friday.
Assignment due every Friday. Spelling: written spelling
assignments are given during part of the year. Intermittent: As we read through all of our novels, there
are assignments associated with the books (usually comprehension questions
and vocabulary work) that are often begun in school and finished
occasionally for homework. Composition assignments are often
finished at home. For part of the year, cursive practice is
part of the homework. The duration of the practice depends on the
skill level of the class. Social Studies assignments
occasionally need to be finished at home. Science and specials
classes (music/band, computer) occasionally assign homework.
During the 2nd half of the year, tests which require a great deal of
memorization are administered and studying at home is required. Year Long Assignment:Autobiography Project:
Through out the year, various part of this project are assigned. When
complete, the student will have a binder of stories of his/her entrance into
our wolrd, his/her early years, his/her serious thoughts about our world and
a variety of other fun projects that together provide insight into the
students's life when he/she was in the 6th grade. (A great keepsake)
“What a privilege it is to have this opportunity to work with your children
using this amazing Harbor School Method!! Hi, my name is Ann Tschikof
(that’s “chick-off”) and this is my 4th year teaching 6th grade at Compass.
After living on both coasts (as well as in between) and completing a BS (elem
ed, spec ed, and bilingual ed) and master’s degree (Ed Psych/LH credential),
I moved to Boise with my young family in 1993. I love Idaho and am blessed
to be able to call it my home. I live in Meridian with my new husband, Randy
(as of July 2007), my two very active, athletic and academically successful
teenagers (Kelly, 19, BSU cheerleader and Tyler, 17, competitive soccer
player) as well as my 3 dogs. Throughout my 27-year career, I’ve taught
three-year-olds through college students, in regular and special education,
and worked 11 years as a school administrator. I absolutely LOVE teaching
6th graders and look forward to a tremendous year at Compass Public
Charter.”
