Hello, my name is Susan Luke and I am the Second Grade teacher at Compass Public Charter School.  I have been teaching children for many years, including music and performance, and especially love the classroom setting.  Before moving to Boise with my family in 2001, I lived in Washington, Colorado, Utah, Illinois, Virgina, and New York.  I am married and have 4 children of my own, two girls and two boys.  As a returning teacher, I have already had the opportunity to meet many of you.  But I am again excited to teach second grade at this wonderful school, and look forward to working together in order to make this an exceptionally great year!

 Book Ordering Online - Information

Weekly Homework:

Packets will be sent home each Friday (or Monday after a break) and are due the following Friday. I will refer to this homework as “Friday Homework”. Students should not turn in this homework early. (It can, however, be kept in their backpacks.)

Spelling:           Spelling words will be sent home each week. Students may study the spelling words any way they choose for the spelling test on Friday.  For computer practice, each spelling list is posted on a website called SpellingCity.com which your student can use to review the words and play spelling games with the words to reinforce the learning process.  Directions for using this website will be sent home weekly. There is no written spelling homework to turn in.

Math:                  A  worksheet reviewing concepts already learned in class will be sent home weekly and is due on Friday.

Attendance Report Sheet:
There is a Compass weekly newsletter (via email) from the office that reports attendance for the week and important items of school business. Please review this newsletter weekly.

Nightly Homework:

Mad Minutes: Each student will be required to correct and finish his/her Mad Minutes (doublesided) assignment for homework Monday through Thursday. This is to help
students master the facts they are working on at school. Mad Minutes will be collected every morning except Monday.

Reading Log: During the first week of school, each student will be assessed and appropriately placed into books for reading aloud at home. Students need to read for a minimum of 20 minutes every day (Monday through Thursday) out loud with a parent and have reading logs initialed by that parent. Books and logs MUST be returned daily so students can read to me in class. No book will be sent home on Friday.
