Welcome!

Welcome to a meeting of the Board of Directors for Compass Public Charter School.  We are glad you are here and encourage your comments on issues before the board.

This information explains how meetings are run and how you can bring matters of concern to the attention of the board.  We hope your attendance at a board meeting is the beginning of a long participation in our school.

About the Directors

The Directors for the Board are nominated according to the Compass non-profit organization bylaws, which are a part of the Compass charter. The Directors establish the policies that govern the school and serve without pay in overlapping terms.  Individual Directors have no authority to act on their own; they meet as a board in a formal session.

Meetings

The annual meeting for the election of Directors and for other business as may properly come before the Board, shall be held each year on the second Thursday of July at 7:00 PM.  Monthly meetings are scheduled as necessary.  Additionally, special meetings may be called. All regular meetings, including special meetings, are open to the public. State law permits the Board to go into executive session to discuss personnel, negotiations, property or legal matters.  No vote on any item may be taken in executive session. Meeting times, meeting places, and Board agendas for all meetings are posted on the Compass website at www.compasscharter.org.

Addressing the Board

Meetings of the Board of Directors follow the published agenda.  The Chairman of the Board presides at all meetings.  Patrons who wish to comment on agenda items may do so by signing the Public Comment sheet available at the meeting.  When appearing before the Board, please state your name, address and the item on the agenda you wish to discuss.  Public comment on items before the Board is encouraged.  The Board’s function is decision-making and the sentiments of patrons assist in making those decisions.

If you have an item to be put on the agenda, please contact the Board Chairman at least four working days prior to the scheduled board meeting.

Privacy, Law & Employees’ Rights

The rights of employees, students and others are protected by various laws and policies.  At a public meeting of the Board of Directors, no person shall orally initiate charges or complaints against students or individual employees of the school.
